It Must Be True, We Just Can’t Fix STUPID People

The Stupid Idiot Who got in Front of the Champions Interview at The US Open

We have all kinds of people in this world, but the ones who take the cake for me are STUPID PEOPLE. I am truly left astonished by the amazingly stupid idiots who are presently roaming the earth in modern day society. I mean to tell you, that I have come across some real dummies lately. However, I personally know one guy who takes the cake. So, I will use a real life person that I actually know for my example to prove that we just can’t fix stupid people. Well will call him DICK, as this name just fits him perfectly. The all time most stupid person I have ever met would most definitely be this guy DICK, which I have known for years. Dick is a well known drug store cowboy that he ties together with his alcohol abuse and his love for himself with absolutely no regard for anyone else. This guy has to be the dumbest idiot I have ever met, he has this on and off girlfriend who is madly in-love with him and just as sick as he is, she is around 40 and looks 60, and she enables him to only add fuel to his fire and he eventually wears her down and she is doing drugs right along with him, she is not very attractive and he compounds that fact by telling her just how ugly she is every time they start drinking and doing dope together. They eventually get into a knock down drag out and the police cum and take both of these stupid idiots to jail. Dick is beyond dumb, to the point that I actually find him amusing, sad, and perplexing? He has also accomplished such amazing fetes such as pulling into an international Airport wasted on Drugs and alcohol and passed out in the passenger pick-up car line with his beat up Chevy Trailblazer with his clothes piled to the ceiling  and getting arrested  with the engine still running. Three weeks later he followed up and got arrested again for the same charges, and put in jail for 2 months, and had 9 (Nine) Felony convictions pending on him. I mean really? How can anyone be this dumb? Dick, is the poster child for stupidity!  I have seen him one time since this incident, and sadly enough nothing has changed for Dick, as of today, Dick is still basically homeless, he has no Job, he deals prescription drugs, and he lives from pillar to post on someone’s couch, garage or yard. Dick is clearly the most stupidest man I have ever known in all of my life.

This is Dick, Look at this Stupid Drunk Idiot

Let’s get to a larger scale the ole Dick, “Now-a-days they can do surgery on your eyes, and no matter what age you are, you can have 20-20 vision. If you can’t hear, they have a device that makes it so you can hear as good as you could the day you were born, but let me tell you people, you can’t fix stupid.” - Ron White. . . I have seen so much that fits that description lately that I can’t help but think of the famous quote from Comedian Ron White. I mean, it fits. The American people, on November 2nd, in droves, told Pelosi, and Obama to stop the spending, and essentially repent, but what did they do? After getting the snot beat out of them in the election, they went into the Lame Duck session from hell, passing everything they could to force more crap on us the people, and more stuff to hurt this nation. Did they learn anything? You can fix idiocy, because it is based on not knowing something, but YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID folks! It’s based on knowing but changing the truth so it fits your agenda. You can’t fix stupid. Obama is told by polls and people sending messages to Washington that we do not want his health care program. He turns around and does everything he can to pass it, over our objections, like it didn’t matter. Did he learn anything? YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID! The trouble is, Obama is not stupid. But even smart people, can be totally stupid. Obama, and the liberal left, is totally committed to ruining this nation. But to me, that is STUPID folks. Because we live in the greatest nation this world has ever seen. Why ruin it? YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID! Don’t these people know that if you go against the will of the people, there is an election coming up that will oust them? Actually, I think they do know, but the problem lies in the power that they now have, along with their arrogance, and that they actually believe, what they are doing is for the best, and that we the people cannot survive without them and their so called leadership. They have NO COMMON SENSE! They actually believe that the people voted them into office to do what they are doing. They actually believe, that the polls are wrong and that the emails and mail they get are not telling them the things that they are to do. Which is why, this country cannot afford to keep them in office.
Look at Stupid, We can fix this in November 2012

Now, Obama doesn’t care if he is ousted from office, because, as a president, he now has an income granted to him for the rest of his life. One way and above anything he has ever had before. HE DOESN’T CARE. We gave him the life of opulence that he wanted, and that is our fault. If it was up to me, that clause in the constitution would be changed to this: Once you are president, you have your income for the rest of your life, after leaving office, IF you do a good job while president. Do you know how much money just that would save the American taxpayer? We would no longer be paying Clinton or Carter. We have to wake up here people. The money that they, in Washington, are spending so freely? That money comes from us, the taxpayers. It’s time we started thinking of that money as ours, and make them spend the way we have to. Thriftily and smartly. Cause if they don’t, then they run out of money. The government is always in danger of “shutting down” if money isn’t found to fund it. And they always get it because all they have to do is re-appropriate it from something else. We know we can’t do that in our budgets like the government can. We have to cut spending, and try to save. Why can’t the government do that? I can tell you why. Because we the people have allowed them to do this, like, forever. It is time we took the reins back and got the grassroots in politics going again. We need to get people in there who do not want politics for a career, and only want to do what is best for this country. That is the only way to fix stupid folks. Get rid of stupid, and things will get fixed, because spending would stop when we can’t afford it. Thank the Lord that, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, of Texas, the congresswoman who was shot in the head one week ago today, has made amazing progress, and is moving her arms and legs. Pointing at things when asked too, and has opened her eyes on her own. Now folks, if this aren’t an example of God working miracles in answer to millions of prayers, I don’t know what is. Many of which, have come from my household, and I know, yours... In my eyes, I have beheld a miracle of God’s greatness, and His ability to help in our lives.

Ya folks, even though we may try, there we learn that this is just no cure for having a case of the “Dumb Ass”, or “Just plain Stupidity”  With modern sensibility we can often be shocked at the imagery of battles and death in the old Testament, but today's first reading today reminds us that actions and consequences. We even learn of Stupid people in The Bible. The sons of Eli allowed themselves and those who work for them to become greedy. In their minds they were special and therefore entitled. However these dummy’s end up in a battle against the philistines? This was out of clear ignorance, greed, and dumbness. That thought that because they are the chosen people they can expect God to protect them. Instead, God allows them to suffer the consequences of their actions. They not only lost their lives but lost the Ark of the Covenant. The saddest part is that their choices did not only affect their lives but thousands of others. God is a loving God, but God is also a just God, and a good parent. God allows us to suffer the natural consequences of our own bad choices. God will not protect us from our own stupidity. Before we claim that it isn't fair that others suffer because of their choices I would call to mind two things God has told us from the beginning. First, we are created interconnected. No matter how much we worship individual accomplishment, the fact remains. All our actions one way or the other impact others. Secondly, these men did not come who they were in isolation. They grew up to be the men they were. How many people as they were growing saw them headed down the wrong path and said or did nothing, possibly because they were the sons of someone important? How many people enabled the behavior, even when they were young? How many people around them even benefited from their bad behavior? How many willingly followed them into battle, with dreams of conquest? People complain about their leaders and yet the leaders like all of us are products of their culture. These results are not only of their own choices, but of millions of choices and examples of others throughout their lives.

Just what is it to be a stupid idiot, and can it be fixed? Well maybe Lets look deeper.  We will start by defining the word stupid. stu•pid (stpd, sty-) adj. stu•pid•er, stu•pid•est 1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse. 2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes. – So can we fix stupid? Well, sorta., Kinda. Let me explain what I mean. In the world of technical support, when people use the word "stupid", most of the time they don't really mean "stupid", they mean "ignorant." As in, lacking knowledge. ig•no•rant (gnr-nt) adj. 1. Lacking education or knowledge. 2. Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake. 3. Unaware and unknowing. Yes, I know the term "ignorant" carries a negative connotation, but from my perspective it really shouldn't. There's nothing inherently wrong with being ignorant of something; and that's fortunate, because all of us are ignorant about a great many things. That doesn't make us stupid. Most of the time, people who need technical assistance are perfectly normal, reasonably intelligent people, all the stories about broken cup holders aside. But almost everyone who calls for technical assistance is lacking knowledge in one form or another. They're ignorant about the solution to their specific issue. And that can be fixed. Now, from my myriad adventures in life, I've noticed there are three basic varieties of stupidity or ignorance found in all of us, all of which can be "fixed" with some effort and direction. Let me outline the three types, and how to fix them, below:
1. "Normal" ignorance - this is simply someone who doesn't know how to solve the issues they are facing. Nothing special, nothing fancy. For example: 1. they don't know how to clean off their desk to make room for a new project. 2. They don't know how to change the toner in their laser printer. 3.They Cant change the oil in their car.  People who can't think for themselves.  Lets use It people for an example here. In their world the face simple issues all of the time, it is usually the primary reason for support calls, and the best way to "fix" this is to, you guessed it, import knowledge. Good tech support people don't just wave their magic mouse, solve the immediate issue, and fly off into the sunset. They help their user understand the source of the issue, and make sure they know what to do about it in the future. Good technicians can also provide tools like How-Tos, FAQs, and training guides to users to help them keep that knowledge for the long term.

2. "Negative" ignorance - I'm sure everyone has encountered someone in this category. They are the ones who call up with an issue, and then say "I'm no good with computers, I'll never understand them." We're actually dealing with two levels of ignorance here; the garden-variety type mentioned above, and ignorance on the part of the person about their actual ability to use a computer or program. This manifests itself as a negative, defeatist attitude. It complicates things, because both levels need to be addressed in order for the user to be effective. The best technicians I've seen work with these users and "fix" the situation by not only imparting knowledge, but also by imparting confidence. Half coach, half cheerleader, they help their user understand the underlying technical issue, and persuade their user that they've underestimated their own ability (which the user almost always has). Some of the best power users I've ever had the pleasure of working with were once "Gun-shy", until someone took the time to help them past their assumptions about their own abilities.

3. "Not-gonna-do-it" ignorance - This is the unacceptable one. These are people who actually want to remain ignorant. Metaphorically covering their ears and shouting "La La La, I can't hear you, La La La, can't make me learn." These are the users who refuse to read the documentation for the app, even after they have been asked to several times. These are the people who continue to complain about their computer running slow after they've installed spyware (yet again), when they've been told spyware was the reason their computer was re-imaged the last four times. These are the users who want others to do the work for them, instead of learning to do it themselves. Now, these users are in the minority, but they exist.

So how do you deal with people like this, or Like Dick? How do you "fix" people like Dick and his sort of ignorance? Well, the short answer is: Don't enable them. Yes, I know it's easier in the short term to just do things for them, such as loan them money or buy them a drink or a bottle, but we need to think long term here. If they want to know how live a normal life, then we can point them in the right direction, and then  have them read through problems on their own, even if we have to be standing over their shoulder. If they are installing spyware, don't cover up for them. If this is an inner office situation, then make sure your, and their, management is aware of their issues, and be prepared to go behind them. If they are trying to get you to do their work under the guise of "asking for help", have them do the work while you watch, one time only. If they ask questions for which they already have the answer, remind them. While working with these projects can be frustrating, the key here is to use persistence and resolve, and management when needed, to persuade them that it's in their own best interest to learn. But whatever you do, don't play their game. That would just make the rest of us to be a stupid as they are, and we have all seen many of these people in action, which takes me back to the beginning, when its all said and done, we just can’t fix stupid people, they must choose to fix them self’s ~ Donnie Bolena
